When Emily Amanda Rockwell was born on 31 January 1833, in Independence, Jackson, Missouri, United States, her father, Orrin Porter Rockwell, was 19 and her mother, Luana Hart Beebe, was 18. She married Hiram Gates in 1849. She lived in Solano, California, United States in 1852 and Washington Judicial Township, Alameda, California, United States in 1860. She died on 28 March 1908, in Grouse Creek, Box Elder, Utah, United States, at the age of 75, and was buried in Salt Lake City Cemetery, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States.

1836 · Remember the Alamo

Being a monumental event in the Texas Revolution, The Battle of the Alamo was a thirteen-day battle at the Alamo Mission near San Antonio. In the early morning of the final battle, the Mexican Army advanced on the Alamo. Quickly being overrun, the Texian Soldiers quickly withdrew inside the building. The battle has often been overshadowed by events from the Mexican–American War, But the Alamo gradually became known as a national battle site and later named an official Texas State Shrine.

1839 · Nauvoo is Settled

After the Saints had been chased out of Missouri they moved to a swampy area located next to the Mississippi River. Here they settled and named the place Nauvoo which translates into the city beautiful.
