He died on 6 April 1833, in his hometown, at the age of 81, and was buried in Rijmenam, Antwerp, Belgium.

The Netherlands declare independence. The outbreak of a revolution in France in July 1830 inspire a Belgian uprising in August. Dutch troops are driven from Brussels, and on October 4th a unique coalition of Catholics and Liberals proclaim Belgian independence. The great powers--Austria, France, Great Britain, Prussia, and Russia--accept Belgian independence from the Netherlands.
