When Berta Schmitt was born on 8 December 1828, in Baden, her father, Franz Joseph Schmitt, was 27 and her mother, Felizitas Herm, was 24. She married Ferdinand Pfistner on 3 January 1853, in Baden. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 6 daughters. She died on 17 June 1888, at the age of 59, and was buried in Ottenau, Amt Rastatt, Baden.
