1951 · Trial of the Generals

Age 2

From July 31 to August 31 of 1951, the communist authorities of Poland carried out a politically-motivated totalitarian trial. The primary targets of the proceedings were officers of the Polish Army who had served during  the first or second World Wars. In order to imprison these individuals, the communist authorities falsely accused these individuals of conspiring with British and American intelligence services. The accused generals were sentenced to life imprisonment and over 20 officers were executed. The remaining prisoners were set free in 1956 after the end of Stalinism in Poland.
1968 · Warsaw Pact Invasion of Czechoslovakia

Age 19

After months of unrest, Poland was one of five Warsaw Pact countries to participate in the invasion of Czechoslovakia; they were joined by the Soviet Union, Bulgaria, East Germany, and Hungary. All of the involved parties suffered loses, including 10 Polish deaths. However, Czechoslovakia had 137 civilian deaths, greater than the combined death toll of all the invading countries. At least another 500 people were seriously wounded or injured. The Warsaw Pact Invasion was considered successful and increased the authority of the Communist Party in Czechoslovakia.

Age 34

Martial law lifted.
