He married Anna Higley on 18 March 1828, in Jamestown, Chautauqua, New York, United States. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 3 daughters. He lived in San Gabriel Judicial Township, Los Angeles, California, United States in 1860 and Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, United States in 1870. He died on 6 November 1877, in San Gabriel, Los Angeles, California, United States, at the age of 81, and was buried in Angelus Rosedale Cemetery, Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, United States.

1797 · Albany is Named Capital of New York

Albany became the capital of New York in 1797. Albany is the oldest continuous settlement of the original 13 colonies.

1800 · Movement to Washington D.C.

While the growth of the new nation was exponential, the United States didn’t have permanent location to house the Government. The First capital was temporary in New York City but by the second term of George Washington the Capital moved to Philadelphia for the following 10 years. Ultimately during the Presidency of John Adams, the Capital found a permanent home in the District of Columbia.

Name Meaning

English (Middlesex): nickname from an unrecorded Middle English burre-dokke ‘burdock’, the name of a prickly plant with burrs and dock-like leaves (usually Arctium lappa), common on waste ground. It may have been given to someone of a prickly temperament or perhaps to someone with a hoarse voice.

Possibly also an Americanized form of Dutch Boerdijk: habitational name from a settlement named Boerdijk, composed of boer ‘peasant, farmer, countryman’ and dijk ‘dike’.

History: Robert Burdick was a freeman of Newport, RI, in 1655.
