    Name Meaning

Americanized form of German Conrad , which is a variant of Konrad and of its byform Kunrad.French: from the ancient Germanic personal name Konhard, composed of the elements kōne, kuoni ‘bold’ + hard ‘brave, strong’.History: One of the first German settlers in PA was Dennis Conard (who came on the ship Concord in 1683). His original German surname was written by himself as both Kunrad and Kunders (the latter being an old Westphalian derivative). However, in Penn's charter of Germantown from 1689, his surname is spelled as Conrad, and from this form the spelling Conard arose. The surnames of Dennis Conard's children were also spelled in different ways (beside Conard): Conrad (the firstborn son), Kunders, Cunards, Cunnard, and Cunreds.
