When Martha Stiles was born in 1799, in Kingston Township, Frontenac, Upper Canada, British North America, her father, Joshua Stiles, was 37 and her mother, Martha Stiles, was 19. She married Horace Spafford in 1824, in Kingston, Frontenac, Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 6 daughters. She lived in Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois, United States in 1839. She died on 25 June 1850, in Salt Creek Election Precinct, Cass, Nebraska, United States, at the age of 51, and was buried in Indian Territory, United States.

The First capital was temporary in New York City but by the second term of George Washington the Capital moved to Philadelphia for the following 10 years. Ultimately during the Presidency of John Adams, the Capital found a permanent home in the District of Columbia.
