1947 · The First Edinburgh International Festival is Held.

The idea of the Edinburgh Festival was mainly focused on providing a platform for the flowering of the human spirit and enrich the cultural life of Scotland. The Festival was founded by Rudolf Bing and Henry Harvey Wood after they discussed it over lunch in London convincing themselves that musical and operatic festivals would be good for the communities after World War II ended. After lots of planning and getting everything ready for a large crowd, The first International Festival took place between 22 August and 11 September and has since taken place every August.

1960 · A.I.R.P.A.S.S.

The AIRPASS system was announced in late June and was carried by interceptor aircraft from the early 1960s. It was developed by the Ferranti Group in Edinburgh and ultimately entered service with the RAF in 1960 in the English Electric Lightning interceptor. The next version of the system was nicknamed Blue Parrot and was a system optimized for use at low-level.
