Death by suicide of van Gogh.

1890 · Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Separates from the Netherlands

Luxembourg had gained their independence in 1867, but they were still under the possession of the kings of the Netherlands until William III died and the grand duchy passed to the House of Nassau-Weilburg.

1904 · Weerdinge Couple Found in Bog

Two skeletons were found next to each other in Drenthe, Netherlands. The skeletons were dated back to between 160 BC and 220 AD. One of the skeletons was thought to be a female and the other a male so scientists called them the Weerdinge couple or Mr. and Mrs. Veenstra. It was determined that both skeletons were men and the name was changed to Weerdinge Men.

Dutch: nickname from roos ‘erysipelas’, an infection which causes reddening of the skin and scalp, applied presumably to someone with a ruddy complexion.
