John Petitt was born on 20 April 1801, in Virginia, United States as the son of Revell Petitt and Elizabeth Baker. He married Elizabeth Baker on 2 June 1825, in Accomack, Virginia, United States. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 3 daughters. He died on 18 July 1887, in Snow Hill, Worcester, Maryland, United States, at the age of 86, and was buried in Whatcoat United Methodist Church, Worcester, Maryland, United States.
