Walter Helms Reece was born on 25 April 1896, in Morristown, Hamblen, Tennessee, United States as the son of Sterling P. Reece and Martha Adeline Burhman. He married Mary Lorene Sallee on 1 August 1928, in Nodaway, Missouri, United States. They were the parents of at least 1 son and 1 daughter. He lived in Civil District 7, Hamblen, Tennessee, United States in 1900 and Colfax Township, Page, Iowa, United States in 1950. He registered for military service in 1919. He died on 20 June 1986, in Coin, Page, Iowa, United States, at the age of 90, and was buried in Coin, Page, Iowa, United States.

1898 · War with the Spanish

After the explosion of the USS Maine in the Havana Harbor in Cuba, the United States engaged the Spanish in war. The war was fought on two fronts, one in Cuba, which helped gain their independence, and in the Philippines, which helped the US gain another territory for a time.

1913 · The Completion of the Keokuk Dam

The Keokuk Dam was completed in 1913 and began to power the surrounding area. It was the largest single capacity powerhouse in the world at the time. After World War II, the powerhouse was modernized and all the units were converted in 2002. It remains the largest privately owned and operated dam on the Mississippi River.
