Lázaro Cárdenas presidency. Forced exile of Calles (1936). Cárdenas begins socialist policies. Agrarian reform establishes ejidos (see Glossary) and collectivization. The Palace of Fine Arts, is the first national theater in Mexico. Construction begins in 1904 by architect Adamo Boari, with a pause in 1913, due to the Mexican revolution. Federico Mariscal finishes the project in 1934. The first stone is place by president Porfirio Diaz.

Adolfo López Mateos presidency. Increased foreign investments in Mexico and control of economy by foreign (mainly United States) interests. Land redistribution policies and increased agricultural production. Greater participation of minority parties in political process.
