When Mary Van Hoy was born in 1828, in Surry, North Carolina, United States, her father, Clayton Johnathan VanHoy, was 39 and her mother, Elizabeth Kirk, was 30. She married James Haney on 26 December 1855, in Murray, Georgia, United States. She died in 1874, in Whitfield, Georgia, United States, at the age of 46.

    1830 · The Second Great Awakening

    Being a second spiritual and religious awakening, like the First Great Awakening, many Churches began to spring up from other denominations. Many people began to rapidly join the Baptist and Methodist congregations. Many converts to these religions believed that the Awakening was the precursor of a new millennial age.

    In the 1830's, President Jackson called for all the Native Americans to be forced off their own land. As the Cherokee were forced out of North Carolina many of them hid in the mountains of North Carolina.
