1982 · Re introducing the Maori Language

Age 1

Many years leading up to the 1982, there were growing concerns among the Māori that their language was endangered because very few young people were able to speak it. The Te Kōhanga Reo focused on total immersion in the Māori language for preschool children. Today, everyone in New Zealand is taught Maori and is one of the three official languages used in New Zealand.
1986 · The Constitution Act

Age 5

The Constitution Act was passed to form a major part in New Zealand's constitution helping them lay down a framework for an executive, legislative, and judicial branch in their government. This Act also ended the ability of the British Parliament to pass laws for New Zealand. 

Age 6

Political rivalry of Fijiians and Indians brought on a coup and military rule by Fijians. Rabuka stages a second coup, proclaims Fiji a republic and appoints Governor-General Ratu Sir Penaia Ganilau president. Ganilau in turn appoints Ratu Mara prime minister. Fiji expelled from Commonwealth. Britain, the United States, Australia and New Zealand suspend aid.
