1955 · The Civil Rights Movement Begins

Age 1

The civil rights movement was a movement to enforce constitutional and legal rights for African Americans that the other Americans enjoyed. By using nonviolent campaigns, those involved secured new recognition in laws and federal protection of all Americans. Moderators worked with Congress to pass of several pieces of legislation that overturned discriminatory practices.

1966 · Race Riots

Age 12

On July 4, 1966, race riots started in Omaha, Nebraska, as a protest against civil unrest. The first of the riots started in July when a crowd of African Americans gathered and reacted violently to the Omaha Police Department. They demolished police cars and threw firebombs demolishing stores. This lasted for 3 days and ended in million of dollars of damage. In August of 1966, the next set of riots took place, when an 19 year old African American was shot by a white cop. Buildings were firebombed. 

1967 · The Twenty-Fifth Amendment

Age 13

The Twenty-fifth Amendment clarifies that when a President can't fulfill his role as President, the Vice President becomes President. He may do so only If the president dies, resigns, or is removed from office.

Name Meaning

English (northern): not, as its form would imply, a habitational name, even though there is a place in Shropshire so called, but a variant of Telfer , assimilated to the pattern of habitational names in -ford. The Shropshire place is a new town, named after the celebrated Scottish civil engineer Thomas Telford (1757–1834).
