WWI. Hungary fights on the losing side and the monarchy collapses.
1920

Hungary loses large part of territory to Czechoslovakia, Romania, Russia and Yugoslavia. The National Assembly restores Kingdom of Hungary. Horthy becomes regent and remains influential until 1944.
1938

Germany raise treaties in Munich and Vienna in which Southern Slovakia and Northern Transylvania were returned to Hungary.

1 Hungarian and Jewish (from Hungary): from kard ‘sword’, hence a metonymic occupational name for a warrior or a status name for a swordsman, i.e. a nobleman who had the right to wear a sword. As a Jewish surname it was ornamental.2 Czech (Kardoš): variant of Kardas .
