Brief Life History of Edythe Marie

RAVENA Edythe M. Martin of Ravena, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at St. Peter's Hospital. Edythe was born in Queens, N.Y. and had lived in Ravena for 55 years. She retired in 1987 from Bank of America in Albany. Edythe was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, Ravena. Survivors include her husband, Clarence D. Martin Jr. of Ravena; her daughter, Linda A. (Lyn) and her husband John G. (Jack) Heppner Jr. of Kingston; and her brother, Charles D. Hoyt of Loudonville. All services will be private at the convenience of the family. Contributions in memory of Edythe may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.

The Berlin Blockade was the first major crises of the Cold War. The Soviet Union blocked all access to the sectors of Berlin under Western control and offered to drop the blockade if the newly introduced Deutsche Mark was removed from West Berlin. The Berlin Blockade showed the different ideological and economic visions for postwar Europe. Even though there wasn't any fire fight during the cold war, many of these skirmishes arose and almost caused nuclear war on multiple occasions.
