The Standard Oil Company of New Jersey was a large, integrated association that produced, transported, refined, and marketed the product. In 1911, the Supreme Court declared that the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey was in violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act. As a result, it was split into 34 smaller companies.
