On March 1, 1963, Dr. Starzl performs the first of many liver transplants while at the University of Colorado Hospital. The first five patients all died, mostly due to infections, not rejection of the organ. By 1967, there were many examples of liver transplant suvivors.

German: variant of Hardt 1 and 2. It is also found in France (Alsace and Lorraine).
