    1866 · The First Civil Rights Act

    Age 0

    The first federal law that defined what was citizenship and affirm that all citizens are equally protected by the law. Its main objective was to protect the civil rights of persons of African descent.

    1867 · Sorry Mr. President, You can't do that.

    This Act was to restrict the power of the President removing certain office holders without approval of the Senate. It denies the President the power to remove any executive officer who had been appointed by the president with the advice and consent of the Senate, unless the Senate approved the removal during the next full session of Congress. The Amendment was later repealed.

    1896 · Utah Becomes a State

    Age 30

    After three prior attempts to become a state, the United States Congress accepted Utah into the Union on one condition. This condition was that the new state rewrite their constitution to say that all forms of polygamy were banned. The territory agreed, and Utah became a state on January 4, 1896.

    English: habitational name from Angle in Pembrokes (see Nangle ) or, more frequently, a topographic name for someone who lived on an odd corner of land, from Middle English angle (from Latin angelus ‘angle, corner’).

    French (mainly Gironde): topographic name from angle ‘corner, angle’ (compare 1 above), or perhaps a nickname from a homonymous Old French term denoting a measure of grain. This surname is very rare in France.

    Americanized form of German or Dutch Engel .
