When Ira Curtis Parke was born on 22 January 1834, in Terre Haute, Knox, Indiana, United States, his father, Thomas Harris Parke, was 30 and his mother, Huldah Jane Curtis, was 28. He married Mary Vashti Call on 10 April 1853, in Bountiful, Davis, Utah, United States. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 8 daughters. He lived in Carson, Utah, United States in 1860 and Centerville, Davis, Utah, United States for about 10 years. He registered for military service in 1852. He died on 13 February 1897, in Boise, Ada, Idaho, United States, at the age of 63, and was buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Cassia, Idaho, United States.

1836 · Remember the Alamo

Being a monumental event in the Texas Revolution, The Battle of the Alamo was a thirteen-day battle at the Alamo Mission near San Antonio. In the early morning of the final battle, the Mexican Army advanced on the Alamo. Quickly being overrun, the Texian Soldiers quickly withdrew inside the building. The battle has often been overshadowed by events from the Mexican–American War, But the Alamo gradually became known as a national battle site and later named an official Texas State Shrine.

After the Saints had been chased out of Missouri they moved to a swampy area located next to the Mississippi River. Here they settled and named the place Nauvoo which translates into the city beautiful.
