1969 · The John Hancock Center

Age 2

The project for the John Hancock Center was conceived by Jerry Wolman and it was financed by John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company. Because of an early flaw in engineering, construction of the tower was interrupted in 1967 after it was discovered when the building was 20 stories high. Because of the halt on the project, Wolman filed for bankruptcy and the financial stresses of the project resulted in John Hancock taking over the project. The building was completed in April 1969 and began to rent apartments out to tenants.
