He lived in Saltcoats, Saltcoats No. 213, Saskatchewan, Canada in 1911 and Saskatchewan, Canada in 1916. He died on 15 April 1958, at the age of 83, and was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Burnaby, Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

In 1883, there was a mining boom in Northern Ontario when mineral deposits were found near Sudbury. Thomas Flanagan was the blacksmith for the Canadian Pacific Railway that noticed the deposits in the river.
