1890 · The Sherman Antitrust Act

This Act tried to prevent the raising of prices by restricting trade. The purpose of the Act was to preserve a competitive marketplace to protect consumers from abuse.

1890 · Woman's Suffrage

Age 1

An organization formed in favor of women's suffrages. By combining the National Woman Suffrage Association and the American Woman Suffrage Association, the NAWSA eventually increased in membership up to two million people. It is still one of the largest voluntary organizations in the nation today and held a major role in passing the Nineteenth Amendment.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a law recognizing that Ohio was admitted into the Union, since it had previously slipped through the cracks. The official date of admittance was agreed upon as March 1, 1803, ratified as of May 19, 1953.

Name Meaning

Irish (Ulster): Anglicized form of Irish Mac Cathmhaoil, ‘son of Cathmhaoil’, for which Campbell was often adopted as an equivalent. The name has also been explained as variant of Scottish Campbell with the Gaelic prefix Mc- ‘son’ added.
