With the construction of 41,000 miles of the Interstate Highway System, the Federal Aid Highway Act made way for the largest public works project in American history at that time. One of the purposes was to provide military access to places in case of an attack.

1963 · Assassination of President John F. Kennedy

John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, was assassinated in Dallas at 12:30pm. He was riding in a presidential motorcade by Jacqueline (his wife), with John Connally (Texas Governor) and Connally's wife (Nellie). President Kennedy was pronounced dead in Parkland Memorial Hospital within thirty minutes of the shooting.
