When William Curtis was born on 1 April 1825, in Pontiac, Oakland, Michigan, United States, his father, Jeremiah Curtis, was 43 and his mother, Ruth Stratton, was 30. He married Marian Sutherland on 27 September 1845, in Mound City, Linn, Kansas, United States. He lived in San Bernardino Judicial Township, San Bernardino, California, United States in 1900 and San Bernardino, California, United States in 1910. He died on 11 September 1912, in Redlands, San Bernardino, California, United States, at the age of 87, and was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Redlands, San Bernardino, California, United States.

1830 · The Second Great Awakening

Being a second spiritual and religious awakening, like the First Great Awakening, many Churches began to spring up from other denominations. Many people began to rapidly join the Baptist and Methodist congregations. Many converts to these religions believed that the Awakening was the precursor of a new millennial age.

1848 · Fire Destroys the Temple

On October 9, 1848, an arsonists fire claimed everything but the outer walls of the Nauvoo Temple since the structure was made out of limestone and wood. It was meant to discourage the Saints that had fled to never come back.
