He married Eva Dorothea Foltz in 1755, in Warwick Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, British Colonial America. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 4 daughters. He died on 1 December 1802, in Frederick, Virginia, United States, at the age of 68, and was buried in Berkeley, Virginia, United States.
