When Joseph Jesse Stayner was born on 12 May 1814, in Steuben, Indiana, United States, his father, Jacob Stayner Sr., was 26 and his mother, Nancy Ann Huntsman, was 24. He married Sarah Catherine Grenoe on 2 September 1835, in LaGrange, Indiana, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 4 daughters. He lived in Salt Lake, Utah, United States in 1850 and Judicial Township 3, Amador, California, United States in 1870. He died in 1872, in Volcano, Amador, California, United States, at the age of 58, and was buried in Protestant Cemetery, Ione, Amador, California, United States.
