1951 · The Twenty-Second Amendment

Before the Twenty-second Amendment, the Presidency didn’t have a set number limit on how many times they could be elected or re-elected to the office of President of the United States. The Amendment sets that limit to two times, consecutively or not, and sets additional conditions for presidents who succeed to the unexpired terms of their predecessors.

1953

President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a law recognizing that Ohio was admitted into the Union, since it had previously slipped through the cracks. The official date of admittance was agreed upon as March 1, 1803, ratified as of May 19, 1953.

1969

"Neil A. Armstrong and Edwin E. Aldrin landed on the lunar surface while Michael Collins orbited overhead in the Apollo command module. After checkout, Armstrong set foot on the surface, telling the millions of listeners that it was ""one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind""."

Name Meaning

English: nickname from Middle English palmer(e) ‘palmer, pilgrim to the Holy Land’ (Anglo-Norman French palmer, Old French pa(l)mer, paum(i)er), so called from the palm branch carried by such pilgrims. The term was also used to denote an itinerant monk who traveled from shrine to shrine under a vow of poverty. This surname is also common in Ireland, where it has been recorded from the 13th century onward.

Irish: when not of English origin (see 1 above), a surname adopted for Gaelic Ó Maolfhoghmhair (see Milford ), the name of an ecclesiastical family.

Swedish (mainly Palmér): ornamental name formed with palm ‘palm tree’ + the suffix -ér (a derivative of Latin -erius) or -er (from German).
