One of the largest teacher strikes in North America happened in 1997, in Ontario, Canada. Thousands of schools were closed for two weeks as the teachers went on strike.
2003 · SARS Causes Public Health Crisis

In 2003, Ontario declared a public health emergency. It started when a Chinese tourist was hospitalized and diagnosed with SARS. At least nine cases of SARS was discovered in Ontario. All of this caused for tourism to decrease.
