Age 9

Nazi Germany invades Poland. Beginning of World War II as the United Kingdom declares war on Germany in response to the invasion. The Soviet Union invades from the east. Germany and the Soviet Union divide Poland between them and treat Polish citizens, particularly Jews, with extreme brutality.
1944

The Warsaw Uprising. Poland comes under Soviet control.
1951 · Trial of the Generals

Age 21

From July 31 to August 31 of 1951, the communist authorities of Poland carried out a politically-motivated totalitarian trial. The primary targets of the proceedings were officers of the Polish Army who had served during  the first or second World Wars. In order to imprison these individuals, the communist authorities falsely accused these individuals of conspiring with British and American intelligence services. The accused generals were sentenced to life imprisonment and over 20 officers were executed. The remaining prisoners were set free in 1956 after the end of Stalinism in Poland.
