He married Elizabeth Thomas on 16 February 1846, in Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 3 daughters. He immigrated to Liverpool, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom in 1868 and lived in Box Elder, Utah, United States in 1870 and Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, Wales, United Kingdom in 1881. He died on 9 December 1893, in Marsh Valley, Bannock, Idaho, United States, at the age of 72, and was buried in Marsh Center Cemetery, Bannock, Idaho, United States.

The Museum of Lancashire is located in the former courthouse of Preston in Lancashire, England. The building was designed by Thomas Rickman. Some the exhibits include Lancashire through the years, at work, at play, goes to war, and law and order. All depict different times and events in Lancashire county. The museum closed in 2015 and is now only opened for scheduled appointments.
