Edward Cook was born on 13 February 1793, in Bolton, Warren, New York, United States. He married Polly Beswick on 6 May 1844, in Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois, United States. He died on 12 January 1855, in Panama, Colombia, at the age of 61.
