John S. Griswold, was an American businessman who worked for W. & J. Sloane in New York City, New York, USA. During World War II the company worked with the Newport News Company and the North Carolina Shipbuilding Company on shipbuilding contracts for the United States Navy fitting out the interiors of liberty ships under the direction of Griswold.

History: Edward Griswold (1607–91) and his family were Puritans who came to the American colonies from Wootton Wawen, Warwickshire, England, on the Mary and John, arriving on 30 May 1630. They settled first in Dorchester, MA, and in 1639 moved to Windsor, VT. Their relative, Matthew Griswold, came to New England in 1639, settling eventually in Lyme, CT.
