She married Ray Alexander Kyes on 3 December 1900, in Kane, Illinois, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 2 daughters. She lived in United States in 1949. She died on 10 October 1961, in Aurora, Kane, Illinois, United States, at the age of 82, and was buried in River Hills Memorial Park, Batavia Township, Kane, Illinois, United States.

Garfield was shot twice by Charles J. Guitea at Railroad Station in Washington, D.C. on July 2, 1881. After eleven weeks of intensive and other care Garfield died in Elberon, New Jersey, the second of four presidents to be assassinated, following Abraham Lincoln.
