Catherine Hipsher was born in 1800, in Pennsylvania, United States as the daughter of Dorothy Smith. She married Peter DeGear on 4 November 1817, in Scioto, Ohio, United States. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 7 daughters. She died on 8 May 1839, in Ohio, United States, at the age of 39.
