Louisa Holthuysen, owner of a prestigious house she had inherited from past generations, bequeathed the property to the city of Amsterdam at the time of her passing. Her only request was that the building, and its contents, become a museum known by the name of Willet-Holthuysen. The building remains open to the public, and contains many decorative paintings (including some of unknown origin).
