When Alta Marie Barrett was born on 17 March 1866, in Joliet, Will, Illinois, United States, her father, Asa Barrett, was 35 and her mother, Evalina Aurella Avery, was 30. She lived in Livingston, Missouri, United States in 1910 and Chillicothe, Livingston, Missouri, United States for about 20 years. She died on 5 September 1954, in Kansas City, Jackson, Missouri, United States, at the age of 88, and was buried in Chester Hill Cemetery, Chester, Howard, Iowa, United States.

1867 · Sorry Mr. President, You can't do that.

This Act was to restrict the power of the President removing certain office holders without approval of the Senate. It denies the President the power to remove any executive officer who had been appointed by the president with the advice and consent of the Senate, unless the Senate approved the removal during the next full session of Congress. The Amendment was later repealed.

1871

1890 · The Sherman Antitrust Act

This Act tried to prevent the raising of prices by restricting trade. The purpose of the Act was to preserve a competitive marketplace to protect consumers from abuse.

Name Meaning

English and Irish (of Norman origin): probably a nickname for a quarrelsome person, from Old French barat, Middle English bar(r)at, bar(r)et(te) ‘trouble, distress’, later ‘deception, fraud; contention, strife’. Through Norman settlement it also became common in Ireland, where it was Gaelicized as Baróid (Munster) and Baréid (Connacht).
