He married Lucy Elizabeth Johns on 19 November 1749, in South Carolina, United States. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 2 daughters. He registered for military service in 1776. He died on 23 July 1783, in Whiteville, Columbus, North Carolina, United States, at the age of 61.
