1914 · Russia Fights German and Austria in WWI

Age 5

Russia entered World War I in August of 1914, they fought against the Germans and Austrians. They were part of the allied forces. In 1917, with the signing of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk Russia left the war.

Bolsheviks seize power from Provisional Government. Lenin, as leader of Bolsheviks, becomes head of state. Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic (Russian Republic) formed. Constituent Assembly elected.

Age 30

Nazi Germany invades Poland. Beginning of World War II as the United Kingdom declares war on Germany in response to the invasion. The Soviet Union invades from the east. Germany and the Soviet Union divide Poland between them and treat Polish citizens, particularly Jews, with extreme brutality.
