When Johannes Schauff was born on 19 December 1902, in Stommeln, Pulheim, Köln, Rhineland, Prussia, his father, Jacob Schauff, was 26 and his mother, Sophia, was 22. He married Karin Schauff (Mager) on 18 June 1926, in Berlin, Germany. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 4 daughters. He died on 19 May 1990, in Vatican City, at the age of 87, and was buried in Vatican City.
