When Jacob Stanley BURNETT was born on 30 November 1910, in Howland Township, Manitoulin, Ontario, Canada, his father, Jesse James "Jim" Burnett, was 26 and his mother, Mary Jane Blackburn, was 17. He married Mildred Isabel Phillips on 28 March 1929, in Little Current, Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands, Manitoulin, Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 1 daughter. He lived in Algoma, Ontario, Canada in 1911. He died on 27 August 1978, in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 67.

1934 · Dionne Quintuplets Born

Born on May 28, 1934, the Dionne quintuplets were the first set of quintuplets to survive infancy. The five girls were born two months prematuare and months later were taken from their parents by the Red Cross. In the 1940s they were returned to their family.

1943 · Conservative Party Wins Ontario Election

George A. Drew was the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party. In 1943, they won the Ontario election.

1955 · General Motors Auto Workers Strike

From 1955-1956, around 17,000 workers for General Motors went on strike. They wanted a pay raise, more secure working conditions, and a health plan half paid by General Motors. The strike lasted 148 days.

Name Meaning

Scottish and Irish (Tyrone and Antrim): descriptive nickname of Norman origin, from Old French burnete, a diminutive of brun ‘brown’ (see Brown ), or possibly in some instances a metonymic occupational name for a maker or seller of burnete, a high quality woolen cloth, originally dark brown in color.

Probably also an altered form of English Barnett .
