1870 · The Fifteenth Amendment
Prohibits the federal government and each state from denying a citizen the right to vote based on that citizen's race, color, or previous condition of servitude. It was the last of the Reconstruction Amendments.
1889
The Oklahoma Land Run on April 22, 1889, was the first land rush, or land opened for settlement on a first-come basis, opened to the Unassigned Lands. The land rush lured approximately 50,000 people, saddled with their fastest horses, looking to claim their piece of the newly available two million acres. The requirements included the settler to live and improve on their 160 acres for five years in order to receive the title. Choice land tempted people to hide out and get an early lead on their claim. 1890 · The Sherman Antitrust Act
This Act tried to prevent the raising of prices by restricting trade. The purpose of the Act was to preserve a competitive marketplace to protect consumers from abuse.
