Age 0

An armed conflict between the US and Mexico followed the American annexation of the independent Republic of Texas. It started when President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna sent troops to attack American Soldiers who were in Texas at the time. Twelve men were killed in this confrontation. When President James K. Polk caught word of the attack, he begged congress to declare war. With all of the American Congress, different battles raged on in both Mexico and the Republic of Texas. Fighting later stopped when both sides signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The United States had to pay Mexico for all the physical damage caused during the war. In exchange, they received land which would end up becoming 9 different states.
