    United States military forces play a leading role against North Korean and Chinese troops in Korean War.

    1950 · Start of the Korean War

    Age 1

    The Korean War was a civil war between North and South Korea. North Korea had support of China and the Soviet Union while South Korea gained support from the United States. The war broke out as a product of the Cold War because of the different ideologies that each side had for what government is. The fighting stopped when an armistice was signed but no peace treaty was ever established. To some the war is still progressing but it is in a stage of frozen conflict.

    1967 · The Portland Riots

    Age 18

    The Portland Riots began as a political rally on July 30, 1967. A group of approximately 100 people gathered in Irving Park to regarding civil rights and discrimination. Rioting began that evening as more people had gathered and began to damage local stores in protest. The rioting ceased after the following evening.

    Name Meaning

    Elaboration of Mary , with the addition of the productive suffix -lyn ( see Lynn ). It is recorded in the 18th century, possibly as a blend of Mary and Ellen , but first came into regular use in the 20th century, peaking in the 1940s and 50s. Since then its use has been surprisingly moderate, considering the enduring popularity of the film star Marilyn Monroe ( 1926–62 ), baptized Norma Jeane Baker .
