Lázaro Cárdenas presidency. Forced exile of Calles (1936). Cárdenas begins socialist policies. Agrarian reform establishes ejidos (see Glossary) and collectivization. Official party renamed Party of the Mexican Revolution (Partido de la Revolución Mexicana--PRM). includes representatives from all sectors of society. Nationalization of oil industry in 1938.

The Palace of Fine Arts, is the first national theater in Mexico. Construction begins in 1904 by architect Adamo Boari, with a pause in 1913, due to the Mexican revolution. Federico Mariscal finishes the project in 1934. The first stone is place by president Porfirio Diaz.

Construction for the new school of engineering starts in 1950 and wraps up in 1954. The building is a hybrid of modern architecture and classic Mexican influences. It is on the UNESCO's World Heritage List.
