    American shortened and altered form of any Greek patronymic ending in -takis, such as Anagnostakis (see Anagnos ). This ending is in North America sometimes also spelled -takes, as in Christakes (see Christakis ). It consists of a proper name stem ending -t and the patronymic suffix -akis, which is particularly typical for the surnames from Crete, where it was adopted massively in the 19th century.
