1896 · Plessy vs. Ferguson

Age 1

A landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court upholding the constitutionality of racial segregation laws for public facilities if the segregated facilities were equal in quality. It's widely regarded as one of the worst decisions in U.S. Supreme Court history.
1897 · Beginnings of Kmart

Age 2

Detroit was the home of the second dime and nickel stores that S. S. Kresge owned. After two years with John McCrory, his partner, he traded his share in the Memphis store, plus $3,000, for full ownership of the Detroit store and formed the Kresge & Wilson Company with his brother-in-law, Charles J. Wilson. In 1962, the S. S. Kresge Company would rebrand and change their name to Kmart.
1919 · The Eighteenth Amendment

The Eighteenth Amendment established a prohibition on all intoxicating liquors in the United States. As a result of the Amendment, the Prohibition made way for bootlegging and speakeasies becoming popular in many areas. The Eighteenth Amendment was then repealed by the Twenty-first Amendment. Making it the first and only amendment that has been repealed.

There are places in Norfolk called East and West Dereham, which have the same etymology. However, the present-day distribution of the surname suggests that they probably did not contribute to the surname.2 Irish (mainly Dublin, Drogheda, and Cork): of English origin, but MacLysaght takes this to be a variant of Durham .
