U.S. intervenes in World War I, rejects membership of League of Nations.

1917 · Joining the First World War

Starting with the sinking of the RMS Lusitania, which killed 128 American citizens, and many other conflicts with trade from Germany. Congress held a special meeting that resulted in The United States declaring war on Germany. Formally entering the First World War.

1944 · The G.I Bill

The G.I. Bill was a law that provided a range of benefits for returning World War II veterans that were on active duty during the war and weren't dishonorably discharged. The goal was to provide rewards for all World War II veterans. The act avoided life insurance policy payouts because of political distress caused after the end of World War I. But the Benefits that were included were: Dedicated payments of tuition and living expenses to attend high school, college or vocational/technical school, low-cost mortgages, low-interest loans to start a business, as well as one year of unemployment compensation. By the mid-1950s, around 7.8 million veterans used the G.I. Bill education benefits.

Name Meaning

English: possibly an Anglicized form of Flemish Van Regenmorter or Van Regenmortel, via the intermediate forms Rainmorter and Rainworter. This surname is also found among African Americans.

History: The majority of the American Rainwaters trace their origin to Robert Rainwater, presumably from England, who was by 1706 living as an indentured servant in King William County, VA, and to his presumed son John Rainwater, who married Mary Fussell in VA or NC c. 1733.
