When Joseph Hillebrand was born on 10 August 1867, in Frýdlant, Bohemia, Czechoslovakia, his father, Josef Hillebrand, was 37 and his mother, Barbara Simon, was 34. He married Emma Oppitz on 27 May 1895, in São Sebastião do Caí, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 1 daughter. He died on 23 August 1954, in Nova Petrópolis, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, at the age of 87.
